Education
Christian Education is an integral part of everything that happens at Grace Church, from weekly worship to special events held throughout the year. A committee, representing clergy and parishioners of all ages, works together to plan programs and events that inspire, awaken, and educate our participants. Guest speakers and leaders from all walks of life are invited to share their wisdom, experience, and spiritual journeys. Sometimes books or videos are used, and excursions to venues outside the church may also occur.
Upcoming:
Preparing Lenten Disciplines
The spiritual disciplines of Lent are about more than giving up chocolate or TV, or drink. As we enter the season of Lent, join Rev. Rachel Kessler to explore what habits or addictions we might need to set aside (or take on!) for the sake of spiritual health. February 15th, 7:30pm
Every Tribe and Tongue: Global Christianity
This Lent, we challenge ourselves to look beyond the “Englishness” of our own church context. Come out Wednesdays in Lent to meet Christians from around the world who will share their union of faith and spiritual insights. Light supper provided.
February 29th, March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 6:30-8:30pm; Reception Room
Seder Supper
Many of our Christian beliefs and traditions are deeply rooted in the Jewish faith. The institution of the Last Supper and the mandate to continue in the blessing and breaking of bread cannot be separated from their connection to the marking of the Jewish Passover. For Christians, this meal institutes the perpetual memorial of the new Passover, which is Jesus Christ. Wednesday April 4th, at 6:30pm.
"Reel Religion": Shakespeare at the Movies
Shakespeare’s plays touched on all sorts of spiritual themes (revenge, forgiveness,
redemption), and the films based on them interpret those themes in creative
ways. Caitlin Hamilton—an MA in Shakespeare Studies—will lead the discussion. Pop, popcorn, and pizza will be provided. April 25, May 2, 9, 16; 6:30pm; Reception Room
Bite-Sized Bible Studies
(Sundays between services: 10:20-10:50am in the library)
Sacraments 101
Ever wanted to know more about the practices forming the basis of our worship life? Join members of our clergy Sundays in Lent as we look at the different sacraments, what they are, and where they come from in scripture. February 26th, March 4th, 11th, 18th.
Resurrection Gospels
Did you know all four Gospels have slightly different versions of the resurrection story? Sundays in the Easter season, we'll discuss whether the differences are oversights or if they actually have spiritual significance. April 29th, May 6th, May 13th.
Bible Book Club – Online Study Program
Ever wanted to know more of the "big picture" for the scripture readings you hear Sunday morning? Want to make a meaningful New Year's resolution? Through our centennial year, Grace offers you the chance to read through the Bible—with your fellow parishioners but also around your own schedule! As we read together, Rev. Rachel Kessler will facilitate online discussion to answer questions, and we'll gather just once a month for dinners and discussion. Speak to Rives Hewitt or Rachel Kessler for more information.
